Pedro Brugada

Pedro Brugada received his medical degree in 1975 from the Barcelona University, where he later was trained in the Cardiology. He moved to the Maastricht University , working on Cardiac Electrophysiology. In 1982 he presented his doctoral thesis and became Professor. Thereafter he moved to Aalst to create the Arrhytmia Unit, and later on to the Brussels University Hospital, where he developed the international Heart Rhythm Management Centre. At present he is Scientific Director of the Cardiovascular Division in Brussels, the CEO of the Medical centre Prof. Brugada in Aalst, and the Director of the Arrythmia Unit at Helicopteros Sanitariosin Puerto Banus,Spain.
He has published more than 1000 scientific papers and books, and received numerous scientific and public awards in several countries..
One of his major contributions was the discovery in 1992 of a new inherited arrhytmia disorder, nowadays known as “ Brugada syndrome”.
