SAVAB-Flanders (Small Animal Veterinary Association Belgium) was born in 1987 as a scientific group. 2010 was a major bending moment in the existence of SAVAB-Flanders. SAVAB-Flanders went independent and returned to its core business: scientific activities for small animal practitioners, where colleagues can join, meet, share and exchange knowledge.
The annual SAVAB-Flanders conference remains the mile stone of the year. As usual one topic is elaborated in detail over two days with a limited number of well known speakers. "No guts, no glory" was the subject of 2010, 'From DNA to AND - A new dog" the one of 2011, SOS Pet on Emergency Medicine in 2012,"CSI Pet: Clinical Pathology in Small Animals" in 2013, "To pee or not to pee: all about small animal urology" in 2014 and last year "Small Animal Orthopedics - all about bones & joints".
In the margin of the conference an award is yearly attributed to a small animal practitioner who has distinguished himself within the veterinary world.
Beside this conference SAVAB-Flanders also organizes the "Spring meeting" and "Work in Progress". Spring meetings are held in spring and highlights one "hot" item, while at "Work in Progress" young colleagues working on a PhD keep us -vets in the line of fire- up-to-date about scientific research and how that helps us in practice.
SAVAB-Flanders also develops a close collaboration with the scientific groups which unite a common interest in a specific part of small animal veterinary medicine. It also looks for collaboration with regional veterinary groups. Through the membership of FECAVA and WSAVA SAVAB-Flanders maintains a close bond with the veterinary activity worldwide.
All members have free access to Vetstream Canis, Felis and Lapis. Many other services are available through SAVAB-Flanders: client brochures, health booklets, The Blue Dog packages and insurances. Members are kept updated on all useful information regarding small animal veterinary business through regular newsletters and newsflashes and through the website.
